Superati i tre gradini dell\u2019ampia sala d\u2019inizio percorso, s\u2019incontra una delle opere pi\u00f9 celebri dell\u2019artista, l\u2019aiuola di libri denominata <\/span>La piccola isola del dottor Mastrovito<\/span><\/i>, che, dal 2010, l\u2019artista ha esposto in mezzo mondo, adattandola ogni volta a luoghi e storie della sede ospitante. Qui, mille volumi di botanica e zoologia ritagliati a mano, danno vita a un ricco connubio tra flora e fauna tanto piacevole a colpo d\u2019occhio, quanto inquietante nella sua essenza. Sembra un lavoro delicato, ma l\u2019artista, con quest\u2019opera, dichiara di inseguire da anni forza e realt\u00e0. La forza e\u0300 quella della generazione, perch\u00e9 \u201cdal fiore nasce il frutto, dal frutto l\u2019albero, dall\u2019albero la carta e dalla carta il libro, che ritorna nel mio lavoro fiore, e cosi\u0300 il cerchio si chiude vichianamente, tornando al punto d\u2019inizio del ciclo\u201d. La realt\u00e0 e\u0300 quella dell\u2019inganno nelle riproduzioni botaniche 1:1 e della natura stessa che, spesso, di gentile ha solo l\u2019apparenza. I fiori vivono della propria essenza effimera e gli animali hanno il destino segnato, o quantomeno minacciato, dai predatori che gli sono messi non lontano. Che in questo caso non si tratti di disegno in <\/span>stricto sensu<\/span><\/i>, non cambia la natura dell\u2019operazione. Ben presto Andrea ha, infatti, afferrato il taglierino, trasformandolo in un\u2019appendice della propria mano, iniziando a disegnare con quello senza alcuna fatica, seguendo le linee del proprio pensiero o estraendo porzioni dell\u2019immaginario altrui, quasi fosse un neurochirurgo, impegnato ad intervenire su una fotografia gi\u00e0 pubblicata, selezionando, in un libro, fiori o animali. L\u2019uso del taglierino, semmai, non fa altro che accentuare il dramma di questa necessit\u00e0 di appropriazione del reale, ottenuta con un distacco inferto a lama, tra fragilit\u00e0 e bellezza.<\/span><\/p>\n

The little island of doctor Mastrovito<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

Once past the three steps of the large room at the start of the itinerary, we find ourselves<\/em>
\nbefore one of the artist\u2019s most famous works: the field of books known as La piccola isola del dottor Mastrovito, which the artist has displayed all around the world since 2010, adapting it on each occasion to the place and history of the hosting venue. Here, a thousand pages from volumes of botany and zoology, cut out by hand, give rise to a rich coupling o $ora and fauna, as pleasant to the gaze as it is unsettling in its essence. It seems like a delicate operation, but with this work the artist states that he has been following certain forces and reality for years. The force is that of generation, because \u201cfrom the flower comes the fruit; from the fruit comes the tree; from the tree, paper; and from paper, the book, which returns in my work as a flower, and so the circle closes \u00e0 la Vico, returning to the starting point of the cycle.\u201d Reality however is one of deception in the 1:1 botanical reproductions and of nature itself whose tame appearance, very often, is in actual fact nothing more than that. The flowers live with their ephemeral essence and the animals\u2019 destiny is decided \u2013 or at least threatened \u2013 by predators that are never far away. In this case, it is not a matter of drawing in the strict sense, yet the nature of the operation does not change. Indeed, soon enough Andrea picked up a box cutter, turning it into an appendix of his own hand, starting to draw with it without the slightest fatigue, following the lines of his thought or extracting portions of others\u2019 imagery, almost like a brain surgeon, intent on intervening on a previously published photograph, selecting flowers or animals from a book. If anything, the use of the cutter merely highlights the drama of this need for the appropriation of reality, obtained through its detachment inflicted with a blade, midway between fragility and beauty.<\/em><\/p>\n
